Microbes need one thing above all to survive and multiply: water!

And of course nutrients which must also be present in this water. Service water systems – above all cooling systems, which are in contact with the environment – offer ideal living conditions for germs, because they contain unavoidable organic impurities and are often operated at temperatures which are ideal for the reproduction of germs.

It is therefore not surprising that such water constitutes a playground for bacteria and other micro-organisms such as algae, yeasts and mould.

Wherever such water is used in the immediate vicinity of foodstuffs production facilities, it constitutes a risk to the complete business (example: tunnel-pasteurizer). External systems such as cooling towers may not endanger hygiene, but their condition deteriorates due to algae infestation, bio-film formation and the creation of odours, to such an extent that their function will soon be impaired.

The WEICOGARD® product range includes biocides specially suited for water treatment, which comply with all usage conditions, and already conform to the requirements of the forthcoming EU Biocide Directive.
